Workshop 9: Introduction to R for Windows (Using RStudio) Online

This a statistics workshop bookable please by only postgraduate research students and staff at Coventry University. Students on taught programmes of study can obtain one to one help from sigma please see http://sigma.coventry.ac.uk

Please note this is an Online Workshop

R is a free software programming environment for statistical analysis, computing and graphics. It is rising in popularity because of its flexibility and the fact that it is freely available. It is code driven (as opposed to being menu driven such as with SPSS). R Studio is a user interface which makes using R much easier. This workshop will cover how to access R and RStudio, as well as getting started with coding in R (Using RStudio) to access and analyse data sets, and will cover very briefly a range of common statistical tests using R (within RStudio). Please note that no previous knowledge of R or RStudio will be assumed and so this is very much for the beginner. If you are new to statistics then it would be beneficial to attend workshops 5 to 8 above in advance of this workshop.

For this workshop you will require access to both R and RStudio. Should you wish to access them on your own laptop or PC, then you must follow the instructions in the attachment provided at the bottom of this page BEFORE the day of the workshop.

Both R and RStudio can be accessed via AppsAnywhere on a University managed PC. It is important you check you have access to both R and RStudio well BEFORE the day of the workshop so that sigma can help you troubleshoot any problems you may be having. There will limited opportunities to solve any issues with access to the software on the day of the workshop. Please direct any questions about this to sigma_staff@coventry.ac.uk
