Workshop 5: Introduction to Statistical Inference Online
This a statistics workshop bookable please by only postgraduate research students and staff at Coventry University. Students on taught programmes of study can obtain one to one help from sigma (please see http://sigma.coventry.ac.uk)
Please note this is an Online Workshop
Statistical inference is the process of using a sample to make statements or inferences about a population. There are many different methods of analysis which depend upon the type of variables and the design of the study. In this session we will discuss the principles behind hypothesis (significance) testing, with a focus on t-tests as well as confidence intervals. There will be an opportunity to practise some of these analyses using SPSS.
(Note this workshop assumes previous experience of SPSS or attendance at Workshop 4 and you must arrange access to SPSS BEFORE the workshop)
Should you wish to use SPSS on your own laptop or PC, then you must follow the instructions in the attachment provided at the bottom of this page BEFORE the day of the workshop.
SPSS can be accessed via AppsAnywhere on any University managed PC. It is important you check you have access to SPSS well BEFORE the day of the workshop so that sigma can help you troubleshoot any problems you may be having. There will NOT be any opportunities to solve any issues with access to SPSS on the day of the workshop. Please direct any questions about this to sigma_staff@coventry.ac.uk
A video of a previous version of this workshop is available at http://sigma.coventry.ac.uk/StatisticsWorkshops
